My life’s work is to develop new social innovations and environments that empower people to collaborate across wide-ranging boundaries to tackle their toughest challenges.
I’ve been able to do just that through leadership roles with the globally top-ranked Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), Juniper Networks in Silicon Valley, and, now, with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
By integrating deep global experience with applied expertise, I am uniquely positioned to enable innovation and change in complex, multi-stakeholder cross-boundary environments. Currently, my role at the Gates Foundation provides a direct view into how collaborative networks are partnering to reduce inequity at global scale.
As an active speaker and writer on global issues, my work is published in leading academic journals and outlets such as Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Chief Learning Officer, Talent Management, Organizational Dynamics and MIT Sloan Management Review, and in authoring two books, including CCL’s best-seller, Boundary Spanning Leadership: Six Practices for Solving Problems, Driving Innovation, and Transforming Organizations (McGraw-Hill Professional).
I have served in multi-year expatriate roles in Asia and Europe, led cross-functional and multicultural teams, and designed and facilitated leadership interventions in diverse international and industry contexts. My work has engaged generals and ambassadors in Iraq … the Executive Director of a leading nonprofit in India … to the CEO of a disruptive innovation company in Silicon Valley … and the many people who are impacted by their actions.
I have been involved in many transformative experiences with dedicated, smart, and successful people. I’ve learned from both our wins and our losses and appreciate first-hand that collaborating across complex boundaries is hard work. Through it all, I am committed to learning, teaching, and practicing to improve the experience and the results for colleagues, clients, and changemakers everywhere.
